Louisiana Tech Golf Welcomes Transfer Abel Derksen

RUSTON – Louisiana Tech Golf head coach Matt Terry has announced the signing of Abel Derksen, a talented transfer from the University of Washington, for the upcoming season. Hailing from Wassenaar, Netherlands, Derksen showcased his skills as a freshman, competing in seven tournaments during the 2024-25 season for the Huskies.

"I am thrilled to welcome Abel to our team for next year," said Coach Terry. "He’s a highly talented young man with an impressive resume and a promising future. In addition to his athletic ability, he’s also an outstanding student."

During his inaugural collegiate season, Derksen achieved an adjusted scoring average of 74.8 over 21 rounds, securing two rounds under par. He notably finished second for the Huskies at the Fighting Irish Classic and achieved a season-best score of 221 (five over) at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate. His standout performance came during the final round at the Amer Ari in Hawaii, where he recorded five birdies, finishing with an impressive 69 (-3).

Before his collegiate career, Derksen made a mark at the junior level, representing the Netherlands in various competitions, including winning the Dutch National Match Play Championship and finishing sixth in the Dutch Open.
