Residents Shocked by Sudden Closure of Lafreniere Assisted Living Facility
METAIRIE, La. — Laura Rogne, a newcomer to Lafreniere Assisted Living, is among several residents left startled after a memo announced the facility’s closure slated for July. Having just moved into her new apartment, Rogne described the unexpected news as “a lot of stress… a lot of processing,” highlighting the emotional toll on residents.
The memo outlined plans to relocate current occupants to a facility in Baton Rouge, which Rogne believes is a “first-class place,” yet inaccessible for her, lacking family and transportation in the area. Her primary concern revolves around maintaining her healthcare, as she relies on local doctors for her medical needs.
Compounding her difficulties, Rogne and other residents felt the closure was poorly communicated, raising questions about the handling of such significant changes. When WWL Louisiana attempted to interview her, the building’s executive director interrupted and requested the crew to leave.
Despite the chaos, Rogne remains hopeful, reflecting, “I do wonder if maybe this is a God thing.” As of now, management has not provided any comments regarding the closure. Residents are left grappling with the uncertainty of this sudden transition.
