Father-Son Duo Shines in LHSAA Class B Championships
In a heartwarming showcase of talent and legacy, freshman Gavin Holt propelled his father J.C. Holt’s Pitkin team to victory, clinching the LHSAA Class B baseball title. Gavin’s outstanding season saw him batting .410 with 27 RBI and 34 runs scored, earning him the LSWA’s Outstanding Player title. This marks a notable achievement as J.C. Holt, a former MVP and Louisiana star, previously received this same honor during his high school career, solidifying a family legacy of excellence.
J.C. Holt also garnered the Class B Coach of the Year award, completing a remarkable double play for the family as top-seeded Pitkin triumphed over Family Community in the state final.
Meanwhile, ushering in the success in softball, LSU signee Cali Deal led Quitman to a state title, mirroring the achievements in baseball. With an impressive 9-4 pitching record and 143 strikeouts, Deal also showcased her batting prowess with a .378 average and 24 RBI. Her efforts earned her the LSWA’s Outstanding Player award in Class B softball, while her coach, Josh Foshee from Stanley, was recognized as Coach of the Year.
Both players’ performances symbolize a promising future for Louisiana sports, as Gavin and Cali dominate the LSWA Class B all-state squads, inspiring young athletes across the state.
