Manhunt Continues for Escaped Inmates after Major Jailbreak
NEW ORLEANS — As the search for escapees Antoine Massey and Derrick Groves enters its 22nd day, authorities remain on high alert. The manhunt commenced on May 16, when 10 inmates broke out from the Orleans Justice Center. A $50,000 reward is still on the table for information leading to their capture.
Families of recaptured inmates, like Lenton Vanburen, have begun receiving calls from their loved ones inside a maximum-security facility. Natasha, Vanburen’s mother, expressed mixed emotions, stating, “Of course I don’t condone him breaking out of jail… but at the end of the day, he’s still my child.” She noted that her son seemed surprisingly upbeat during their call, sharing that conditions in the new facility are better than in New Orleans jail.
While eight of the ten escapees have been recaptured, Massey and Groves remain at large. Authorities recently pursued leads based on a viral video but found only clothing belonging to Massey. Both men are considered dangerous; Massey is linked to the escape plan, while Groves has a history involving a double homicide.
Officials continue to urge anyone with tips to contact law enforcement.
