Louisiana Tech’s Bowling Success Continues: Coach Matt Nantais Signs Extension Through 2030
Ruston, LA — Louisiana Tech University announced a significant milestone for its bowling program as Athletic Director Ryan Ivey confirmed the contract extension of head coach Matt Nantais through the 2030 season. Celebrated as the most successful coach in the program’s history, Nantais has transformed the Bulldogs into a national powerhouse since his arrival in 2016.
“Coach Nantais has built a top-tier program, reflecting his dedication both on the lanes and in the community,” stated Ivey. Under Nantais’s leadership over the past nine seasons, the team has achieved 608 wins with a commendable .619 winning percentage, establishing itself as a consistent contender in collegiate bowling.
His influence was evident from his first recruiting class in 2017, which produced Louisiana Tech’s first All-American, Kaitlyn Eder. The following season marked a resurgence for the program, achieving 55 wins—a feat not accomplished since the 2010-11 season. A record-breaking 2022-23 season saw the Bulldogs reach 87 wins and four tournament titles, further solidifying their place among the nation’s elite.
Despite challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted a promising 2019-20 season, Nantais’s resilience shone through as he continued to build a competitive roster. Recent accomplishments include securing the team’s fifth straight NCAA Tournament appearance and producing multiple NTCA award-winning athletes.
Reflecting on his journey, Nantais expressed gratitude for the support from athletes, families, and the athletic department. “Building something special is a collaborative effort,” he stated.
The contract extension, pending approval by the University of Louisiana System’s Board of Supervisors, signals Louisiana Tech’s commitment to excellence in athletics. Fans are encouraged to support the program through various initiatives, including collaborations with the Bulldog Community Outreach for student-athlete success.
