App State Tennis Team Caps Record-Breaking Season with Victory Over Louisiana
Lafayette, La. — The Appalachian State tennis team concluded its regular season on a high note by defeating Louisiana 4-0, marking a historic end to the season with a record-setting 17 wins. The Mountaineers also achieved a 10-match overall win streak and secured eight consecutive victories in conference play, both unprecedented milestones for the program.
In Friday’s match, App State (17-5, 9-2 SBC) swiftly claimed the doubles point. Due to Louisiana’s lack of players, the Mountaineers won at No. 3 doubles by default. The pivotal doubles point was clinched by the duo of Naledi Manyube and Ruby Broadbent, who delivered a convincing 6-2 victory on court two.
The match progressed into singles play, where Louisiana again struggled with player shortages. App State quickly capitalized on this, with a forfeit win at No. 6 singles giving them a 2-0 lead. Alexi Cleveland further extended the gap with a commanding 6-2, 6-2 victory in the No. 5 spot, improving her season record to 9-3 and showcasing a strong 5-1 performance in Sun Belt matches.
Savannah Dada-Mascoll then clinched the match for the Mountaineers with an impressive 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles, finishing the season with a remarkable 17-2 record overall and 9-2 in the conference.
With this victory, App State now sets its sights on the Sun Belt Championships, which will commence in Rome, Ga. The tournament is scheduled to run from April 27 through Sunday, where the Mountaineers hope to build on their record-breaking season.
