Shari Redstone, chair of Paramount Global, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer earlier this spring, a spokesperson announced. After experiencing fatigue and other symptoms, she sought medical attention about two months ago and received her diagnosis the following day. Although surgeons removed her thyroid gland, some cancer cells remained, having spread to her vocal cords. Redstone is currently undergoing treatment but remains active in her professional and philanthropic engagements. According to her spokesperson, her prognosis is positive.
Redstone initially kept her diagnosis private, sharing it only with a select group of relatives, friends, and advisers, including David Ellison, head of Skydance Media. Ellison’s company is in the process of acquiring Paramount and the Redstone family’s stake for $8.4 billion, a deal still awaiting U.S. Federal Communications Commission approval.
In addition, Paramount is involved in mediation over a lawsuit filed by former President Donald Trump against CBS, reportedly offering $15 million to settle the matter. This period marks a significant time for both Redstone personally and for Paramount as a company as they navigate substantial corporate transactions and legal challenges. Despite her health struggles, Redstone’s commitment to her professional duties and philanthropic efforts remains strong.
