Longtime LSU Baseball Coach Paul Mainieri Set for Hall of Fame Induction
This weekend, Paul Mainieri, the esteemed former head coach of LSU baseball, will be officially inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. Mainieri, who led the Tigers from 2007 to 2021, is celebrated for his remarkable career accomplishments, particularly winning a national championship in 2009 and making five appearances in the College World Series. Under his guidance, LSU finished as the runner-up in 2017.
Retiring after the 2021 season, Mainieri concluded his tenure with an impressive overall record of 641 wins, 281 losses, and 3 ties. His 15 years at the helm included four seasons with over 50 wins, with the standout being a record 57-win season in 2013. He stands among an elite group of LSU baseball coaches, having secured a national title alongside legendary coach Skip Bertman and current coach Jay Johnson, who achieved his first championship last season.
In addition to Mainieri’s induction, the event will also honor former LSU pitcher Paul Byrd, adding to the celebration of athletic excellence within the state.
As LSU baseball continues to thrive, former standout Jacob Berry has recently received a promotion to Double-A with the Miami Marlins, and pitcher Javen Coleman is set to return to the team for the 2024 season, further enhancing the program’s strong legacy.
