New Orleans Doctor Charged in Sister’s Ankle Monitor Scheme
NEW ORLEANS — Dr. Kerry Sterling, 49, has been charged as an accessory after the fact to manslaughter, following allegations he attempted to tamper with his sister’s court-ordered ankle monitor. The Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s Office announced the charges on May 30.
Sterling’s sister, Kyana Traylor, 37, faces serious charges related to the 2023 death of George Singleton, the mentally disabled brother of her boyfriend. Prosecutors allege Traylor brutalized Singleton before his death from a stab wound and secured a $250,000 life insurance policy on him.
Before her trial, Traylor allegedly sought to evade justice by having her ankle monitor removed. Investigators claim Sterling posed as medical personnel at a New Orleans hospital to facilitate this plan. However, the scheme unraveled when a bail bond agent found Traylor and reattached the monitor. Shortly thereafter, Sterling was seen cutting it off in a vehicle.
While Sterling is currently out on a $100,000 bond and faces court on August 12, Traylor remains in custody without bond, facing charges including insurance fraud and cruelty to the infirm, with her next court date set for June 27.
