NOPD Satisfaction Soars to 47% in 2024 Survey, an Increase of 16 Points

Public Satisfaction with NOPD Reaches New Heights

NEW ORLEANS — A recent telephone survey reveals that public satisfaction with the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) has surged to 47%, a notable increase from last year’s 40% rating. Conducted between May 27 and June 4, the survey polled 800 New Orleans adults and marks the 16th annual citizen satisfaction survey, commissioned by the New Orleans Crime Coalition and executed by Faucheux Strategies, LLC.

Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick, who took office in 2023, has been credited with a remarkable 16-point rise in approval ratings since her tenure began, bouncing back from a historic low. "Public perceptions of the NOPD are trending positively," notes pollster Ron Faucheux, Ph.D., while acknowledging that challenges remain.

Key findings show that overall satisfaction is the highest since 2021. The percentage of residents feeling "very satisfied" has more than doubled, albeit from a low base. Although there is a growing gap in satisfaction between younger and older residents, a majority now view the city as safe, with increased support for various crime-reduction strategies such as facial recognition technology.

As New Orleans tackles ongoing public safety concerns, these survey results reflect a gradual rebuilding of trust between the community and its police department.
