Walker, MI Welcomes New Fire Chief Russell Shoultz
The city of Walker has appointed Russell Shoultz as its new fire chief, bringing over 30 years of firefighting experience to the role. Chosen by the Walker City Commission after an interview process on June 4, Shoultz recently held the position of chief of special operations at the St. George Fire Department in Louisiana, serving a community of 86,000.
Mayor Gary Carey expressed his enthusiasm for Shoultz’s appointment, highlighting how his extensive background aligns with the city’s commitment to safety and community well-being. Shoultz’s previous roles include deputy chief at the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal and fire chief at Stennis International Airport. He is not only a seasoned fire service professional but also a licensed nurse practitioner and a veteran of both the U.S. Air Force and Coast Guard Reserves.
In a statement, Shoultz expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and excitement about the fire department’s growth amidst Walker’s ongoing development. He plans to engage with community members through open houses at local fire stations, with details forthcoming. Shoultz will officially take on his new duties in July.
