Linde Allocates $400M for Blue Ammonia Production at Louisiana Clean Energy Hub – Hydrogen Fuel News

Massive Clean Ammonia Investment Lands in Louisiana

Linde plc has announced a groundbreaking investment exceeding $400 million to construct a state-of-the-art Air Separation Unit (ASU) in Ascension Parish, Louisiana. Set to commence operations before 2029, the facility will provide high-purity oxygen and nitrogen for the ambitious Blue Point Number One project —one of the largest clean ammonia initiatives globally.

In partnership with CF Industries, JERA, and Mitsui & Co., Linde’s ASU will support the production of 1.4 million metric tons of low-carbon ammonia annually from the RiverPlex MegaPark, leveraging advanced technologies like Autothermal Reforming (ATR) and Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) to minimize emissions.

The ASU will produce pure oxygen necessary for transforming natural gas into hydrogen, with CO2 captured and stored underground. This process converts traditional ammonia into a cleaner alternative, poised to meet rising energy demands, especially in Asia.

Ascension Parish is an ideal location, boasting essential infrastructure and a supportive regulatory environment. Combined with the economic boost from job creation and tax revenue, this project signifies a major stride toward industrial decarbonization and represents a pivotal moment for America’s clean energy future. As the deadline approaches, the world watches to see how this project will unfold.
