Press Release: Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Celebrates Induction Ceremony Live on LPB

Louisiana Statewide – June 23, 2025 – Louisiana sports enthusiasts will experience a landmark event with the live broadcast of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2025 induction ceremony, hosted by Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB) from Natchitoches. This year’s ceremony, airing Saturday, June 28 at 7:00 PM, will honor a remarkable lineup of athletes and coaches, including NFL star Andrew Whitworth, NBA All-Stars Danny Granger and Vickie Johnson, and celebrated coaches Joe Scheuermann, Danny Broussard, and Nick Saban.

Fans can enjoy pre-ceremony coverage with the “Purple Carpet” event streaming online at www.lpb.org and on YouTube starting at 6:00 PM. For those unable to tune in live, the event will also be broadcast later on WLAE-TV in New Orleans on July 4 at 4:00 PM and WYES on July 7 at 9:00 PM.

“Louisiana athletes have made significant contributions to sports history, and we’re excited to recognize them,” said Clarence “C.C” Copeland, LPB President and CEO. The ceremony promises to be entertaining, engaging sports fans across the state. Doug Ireland, Chairman of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, added that this live telecast represents a “quantum leap” for the event, making it accessible to all audiences.

This year’s induction class includes 14-time All-American gymnast April Burkholder, boxing champion Bobby Soileau, and revered high school coach Dale Weiner. Additionally, sports journalists Ed Daniels and Glenn Guilbeau will receive the 2025 Distinguished Service Award, and Southeastern Conference associate commissioner Herb Vincent will be honored with the Dave Dixon Louisiana Sports Leadership Award.
