Danny Granger: A Basketball Icon Inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame
Natchitoches, LA – Former NBA star Danny Granger is set to be honored as part of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2025 during an induction ceremony this Saturday. Hailing from Metairie, Granger’s athletic journey to this prestigious recognition is marked by dedication, talent, and resilience.
Beginning his basketball career at Grace King High School, Granger showcased exceptional skills at 6-foot-8, averaging 24.3 points, 12.0 rebounds, and 5.5 blocks in his senior year. While his initial passion lay in football, Granger found his true calling on the basketball court, where his playmaking abilities stood out.
Granger’s college career saw him transition from Bradley University to the University of New Mexico, where he consistently averaged over 16 points and made significant contributions to his teams. His dominant performances led to his selection as the 17th overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft by the Indiana Pacers.
Throughout his 10-season NBA career, Granger became a crucial player for the Pacers, earning an All-Star nod in 2009. He rose to prominence by improving his scoring averages significantly, culminating in 25.8 points per game during the 2008-09 season, making him the first Pacers player to reach such heights in over three decades.
Granger’s career was not without challenges, as injuries later restricted his playing time. However, he remains proud of his achievements, reflecting on his induction as a highlight of his journey. “This induction is a privilege,” Granger said.
Now 42, Granger resides in Scottsdale, Arizona, with his family, continuing to inspire future generations of athletes.
