Scott Brown Announces Senate Campaign in New Hampshire

Former Massachusetts GOP Senator Scott Brown is launching another Senate campaign, this time in New Hampshire, having previously run unsuccessfully there in 2014. From 2010 to 2013, he represented Massachusetts before serving as President Donald Trump’s ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa. In his campaign launch video, Brown expressed concern over the direction of the country, stating, “Like a lot of you, I’m worried about where the country is headed.” He praised New Hampshire as a great place to live and work, criticizing the current representation in Washington.

Brown specifically targeted Democratic Rep. Chris Pappas, who aims to replace retiring Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen. He accused Pappas of aligning with President Biden on policies that he claims have worsened living conditions for residents. Brown lauded Trump’s record, specifically mentioning border security and international standing, while showcasing an image of Trump during a critical moment in foreign policy.

Pappas responded to Brown’s candidacy by accusing him of prioritizing corporate interests over the needs of New Hampshire residents. He highlighted a contrast between their visions, claiming that while Brown supports “reckless tariffs” detrimental to local businesses, he chooses to put New Hampshire first.

The race for the open Senate seat is expected to be competitive, with the state having voted for former Vice President Kamala Harris by a narrow margin of 3 percentage points in 2024. As the campaign unfolds, both candidates will seek to appeal to voters’ concerns about the economy, representation, and national issues.
