Induction Weekend Celebrates New Stars at Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame
NATCHITOCHES, La. (KSLA) – The excitement is palpable as the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame welcomes 12 new inductees during the much-anticipated induction weekend. Doug Ireland, Chairman of the Hall of Fame, heralds the occasion, stating, “It’s time for induction weekend!”
This year’s class features a diverse group of talents, including WNBA legend Vickie Johnson, who expressed her joy about the various inductees hailing from women’s basketball, men’s basketball, and coaching. Renowned baseball coach Joe Scheuerman was quick to acknowledge Coach Brad Neffendorf’s remarkable achievement of a 59-0 winning season, remarking, “That’s a pretty strong accomplishment.”
Herb Vincent, former Sports Information Director at LSU and current SEC Associate Commissioner, shared his sense of humility in receiving the Dave Nixon Award, stating, “I’m flattered. I’m humbled. Really excited about the weekend.” Meanwhile, April Burkholder, a former LSU gymnastics star, reflected on her induction, calling it a huge honor, especially as she celebrates a decade since her initial recognition by the LSU Hall of Fame.
Glenn Gilbeau, a journalist known for covering Louisiana’s major sports moments, expressed his pride in being part of a state rich in athletics, recalling coverage of the Saints’ Super Bowl victory and much more.
