Danny Broussard Inducted into Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame

NATCHITOCHES — Danny Broussard, the celebrated head coach of St. Thomas More High School basketball, is set to be inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame this Saturday. With an impressive 42-season tenure, Broussard has built STM into one of Louisiana’s preeminent basketball programs, holding a remarkable career record of 1,162 wins and 354 losses.

Since taking over in 1983 at just 23 years old, Broussard has led the Cougars to six state championships and five state runner-up finishes while maintaining a playoff streak of 34 consecutive seasons. His coaching philosophy emphasizes fundamentals and consistency, drawing inspiration from his brothers Brent and Rickey.

In addition to his basketball success, Broussard’s coaching accolades include 13 state tennis titles and one state championship in baseball, totaling 20 across three sports. His influence extends beyond the court, as 57 of his former players have assumed coaching roles themselves.

With previous honors, including induction into the Louisiana High School Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame and multiple Coach of the Year accolades, Broussard’s induction into the Hall of Fame solidifies his legacy. The ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. at the Natchitoches Events Center.
