ST. GABRIEL, LA — In a tragic incident on Sunday morning, Captain Devin Boutte of the St. Gabriel Police Department was found fatally stabbed at a residence. His alleged assailant, 25-year-old Warren Mitchell III, reportedly informed Police Chief Kevin Ambeau about the incident, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.

Chief Ambeau described the scene as "gruesome," expressing deep sorrow over the loss, which he characterized as a dark day for both the police department and the entire town of St. Gabriel. According to Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi, the stabbing occurred during a dispute, though the motive remains unclear.

Following the incident, Boutte’s body was escorted by nearly two dozen police vehicles to a Broussard funeral home for an autopsy, reflecting the community’s respect and mourning for their fallen officer. Capt. Boutte, a dedicated 12-year veteran of the force, held the position of Captain over the Uniform Patrol Division, and was praised for his integrity and commitment to the town’s residents.

The community has expressed condolences, emphasizing Boutte’s unwavering dedication to service and his impact on the St. Gabriel community.
