Brave Louisiana Student Rescues Campers Amid Texas Flooding
NEW ORLEANS — In a remarkable act of bravery, Louisiana Tech University student Emma Foltz has been lauded for her pivotal role in evacuating 14 campers during a devastating flash flood at Camp Mystic in Texas. Governor Jeff Landry commended Foltz, a rising senior and three-year camp counselor, for her quick thinking amid chaos.
The Camp Mystic site near Kerrville faced catastrophic conditions as water levels surged overnight, leading to severe flooding that has claimed at least 79 lives and left 10 campers missing. Eyewitness accounts from families returning to the camp revealed extensive destruction, including collapsed cabins.
In response to the disaster, President Donald Trump has signed a major disaster declaration for Kerr County, enabling federal support through FEMA. Governor Landry expressed heartfelt condolences and emphasized Louisiana’s commitment to assist those affected, stating, "We continue to pray for all those affected by this travesty."
In light of the ongoing recovery efforts, Louisiana’s Urban Search and Rescue teams have been deployed to Texas, working alongside the Coast Guard and local agencies to search for survivors and provide aid. The community remains hopeful as rescue operations continue amidst the devastation.
