At the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, the competition for the most medals is intense among top countries like the United States, China, and France. With the Games just beginning, China took an early lead by winning the first gold in the 10-meter air rifle mixed team event. The U.S. and France are neck and neck, with the U.S. having the largest delegation of 594 athletes, closely followed by France with 571 athletes. French Olympians have already shown their versatility by medaling in various sports, while the U.S. has excelled in swimming events.
The U.S. is aiming to replicate its success from the 2020 Tokyo Games, where it brought home 113 medals, the most of any country. Russia, a major contender in past games, is not participating this year due to a ban by the International Olympic Committee in response to the country’s invasion of Ukraine. Athletes from Russia and Belarus are allowed to compete as “Individual Neutral Athletes,” but their medals will not count towards their countries. Those who have supported the war in Ukraine are not eligible to compete.
As spectators follow the competition for medals, they will witness the fierce rivalry between countries as athletes strive for individual glory and national pride at the prestigious event.
