The Trump campaign has requested additional security measures similar to those received by a sitting president due to increased threats against Donald Trump’s life. The campaign wants military assets, armored cars, protection while flying, and temporary airspace restrictions, among other measures. The White House Chief of Staff connected the campaign with Homeland Security and Secret Service leadership, and President Joe Biden directed the Secret Service to provide the highest level of protection for Trump. The campaign also requested special forces for protection, but the source denied this and said the Secret Service requested special operations forces to thwart potential drone attacks. Trump has faced two alleged assassination attempts recently and was briefed on threats from Iran. The campaign has used additional tactics and is trying to be less predictable in its movements. The campaign also requested to use planes that detect and deter threats. The Secret Service stated that Trump is receiving the highest level of protection and the Department of Defense provides support as well. Concerns have been raised about providing more assets violating federal law restricting the use of the military for domestic purposes. In August, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin approved increased support for candidates, including explosive experts and technicians to detect and protect against various threats.
