New charges have been filed against Colorado dentist James Craig, who is already facing charges of first-degree murder in the death of his wife. The new charges include solicitation to commit first-degree murder and solicitation to commit perjury. Craig has been accused of trying to have a detective involved in his wife’s case killed.
Records obtained by KUSA suggest that Craig was in jail with the inmate he allegedly solicited to commit the murder. The inmate has not been charged in connection to the case. The detective who was targeted in the alleged plot had worked on the investigation into Angela Craig’s death. Craig’s previous defense lawyer withdrew from the case citing a professional conflict just before the solicitation charges were filed.
Authorities previously accused Craig of poisoning his wife’s protein shake with cyanide and tetrahydrozoline, a medication found in eye drops. She became sick in March 2023 and died shortly after due to a combination of cyanide and tetrahydrozoline. Craig’s internet search history and online purchases, including buying potassium cyanide from Amazon, were cited as evidence in the case.
Despite these accusations, Craig’s defense has maintained that there is no direct evidence linking him to his wife’s death. Jury selection has been indefinitely postponed as a new attorney for Craig has not yet been appointed to represent him in light of the new charges. The case continues to develop as authorities investigate the additional accusations against Craig.
