Congressman Troy Carter, a New Orleans Democrat, has been appointed as the chairman of the 2025 Washington Mardi Gras Ball. He expressed his excitement at being selected for the prestigious role. Carter’s roots in New Orleans influenced his desire to bring a taste of the city to the nation’s capital through the event.
The Washington Mardi Gras Ball is a significant political gathering in Louisiana that attracts government and political leaders, as well as individuals looking to influence them. This year’s theme, chosen by Carter, is “Duty, Honor, Louisiana,” honoring America’s military, veterans, and first responders.
Carter appointed Roderick “Rico” Alvendia, a New Orleans trial attorney and retired Army lieutenant colonel, as king of the ball. Kendall Williams, a recent graduate with an impressive civic background, was chosen as queen. The official poster for the event was designed by New Orleans artist Terrence Osborne.
The official commencement of the Washington Mardi Gras is scheduled for January 23rd, shortly after the presidential inauguration. Sen. Bill Cassidy, the captain of Mystick Krewe of Louisianians, will oversee the event. Alvendia, also appointed to the LSU Board of Supervisors by Gov. Jeff Landry, expressed that the theme of the ball is a tribute to the military, veterans, and first responders.
