Nicholls State University Men’s Basketball Senior Forward Diante Smith Named All-Louisiana First Team

NATCHITOCHES, La. – The Nicholls State University men’s basketball team’s senior forward, Diante Smith, has been honored with a spot on the All-Louisiana First Team by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA). Smith, hailing from Fort Walton Beach, Florida, had a standout season with the Colonels, earning other accolades such as All-Southland, All-SLC Tournament, and All-Region honors. He finished fourth in scoring in the Southland Conference with an average of 16.0 points per game, delivering a career-high 33 points in the championship game against McNeese. Additionally, Smith showcased his versatility by ranking second in steals, 10th in rebounding, and 11th in assists in the SLC.

The All-Louisiana Men’s Basketball Teams were selected by a panel of media and sports publicists, considering statistics and performances up to the conference tournaments. The 2023-24 Player of the Year was awarded to Shahada Wells from McNeese, with Diante Smith joining other notable players like Isaiah Crawford from Louisiana Tech, and Jordan Wright from LSU on the First Team.

The Louisiana Sports Writers Association also recognized standout newcomers and freshmen in the state, with awards going to players like John Awoke from Bossier Parish Community College and coach Will Wade from McNeese. Overall, Smith’s inclusion on the All-Louisiana First Team highlights his exceptional contributions to the Colonels’ successful season and solidifies his status as one of the top players in the state.
