The Louisiana Voodoo Arena Football League team has announced that they will be moving from Lake Charles to Lafayette for their upcoming season. The team’s first game in Lafayette is set for April 27 against the Philadelphia Soul. The decision to move was due to issues with the management group ASM in Lake Charles.
Former Saints Quarterback John Fourcade and former Saints return specialist Michael Lewis are on the coaching staff for the Voodoo, along with other experienced football professionals. The team is gearing up for their first game in Lafayette, with the field set to be installed this weekend and the netting system to be put in place next week.
ASM, the management company in Lake Charles, expressed disappointment in the AFL for not meeting lease terms, which led to the termination of the contract. The City of Lake Charles and ASM both stand behind their decision to require tenants to pay rent and provide insurance certificates for the Lake Charles Event Center.
Mayor Nic Hunter and Visit Lake Charles CEO Kyle Edmiston both support ASM’s commitment to bringing high-quality entertainment to the Lake Charles Event Center. Despite the Voodoo’s departure, Lake Charles remains dedicated to being a premier destination for sports enthusiasts and families, with a strong lineup of entertainment options planned for the future.
