Carriage Horse Breaks Free from Operator in NYC, Collides with Four Cars

Runaway horse named Gunner became agitated and broke free from its carriage in Manhattan on Sunday, colliding with parked cars and dragging its operator through Hell’s Kitchen. The incident occurred when the horse’s canopy required fixing. Two off-duty NYPD officers from the mounted unit sprang into action to help the injured horse and load it into a trailer. The horse suffered cuts and leg injuries but is in stable condition and was taken to Clinton Park Stables for further evaluation. Animal advocacy group NYCLASS is calling for swift action to remove horse carriages from Midtown streets, citing public safety dangers and animal cruelty. NYCLASS wants Gunner released to an animal sanctuary and is urging the NYC Council to listen to the majority of New Yorkers and take action to remove suffering horses from the city streets.
