The 13-person task force, consisting of seven Republicans and six Democrats, will conduct hearings to uncover the facts, ensure accountability, and identify security failures to prevent such incidents in the future.
Higgins expressed his honor in being selected for this high-profile assignment and emphasized the importance of delivering the truth to the American people. The task force has been granted complete control and jurisdiction over all pending House committee investigations related to the Trump assassination attempt, giving them subpoena power to gather the necessary information.
The investigation was prompted by widespread concerns about how the shooter was able to gain rooftop access just 200 yards from Trump during an outdoor campaign rally in Pennsylvania. Former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned following the security failure.
Higgins, the lone Louisiana representative on the task force, serves on the House Oversight Committee and House Armed Services Committee. He is committed to working with his bipartisan colleagues to uncover the details of the assassination attempt and ensure that necessary changes are made to prevent future security breaches.
