Southeastern Lions Gear Up for Crucial Series Against Nicholls
HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team is set to face Nicholls in a pivotal three-game Southland Conference series this weekend at Ray E. Didier Field in Thibodaux, Louisiana. With a regular-season championship and hosting rights for the Southland Conference Tournament on the line, this series is crucial for the Lions (35-13, 20-7 SLC) as they hold a narrow percentage-point lead over UTRGV (22-8 SLC) heading into the final weekend of conference play.
Southeastern enters the series with a magic number of two; any combination of two wins or McNeese losses will clinch them a top bracket hosting spot. Achieving two wins guarantees at least a share of the conference title and the No. 1 seed, while a sweep would secure the outright championship.
The Lions boast a formidable offense, hitting .298 with 76 home runs—just 10 away from tying the program’s single-season record. The pitching staff is equally impressive, currently ranked third nationally in ERA (3.43) and shutouts (7).
Right-hander Brennan Stuprich (9-3, 2.14 ERA) will start the series opener, closely followed by Lakin Polk (4-0, 2.01 ERA) on Friday and Blake Lobell (6-1, 3.93 ERA) on Saturday. The team’s recent victory over Lamar has maintained their top standing in the league.
Fans can catch the games on KSLU 90.9 The Lion or through the Lions Gameday Experience and MyTuner Radio apps. Live stats are available online.
With the stakes high, the Lions are poised to deliver a strong performance against a struggling Nicholls team (16-30, 9-18 SLC) that has lost five of its last six games.
